On Saturday, November 13, 2021, Sister Parish members were blessed to be able to gather virtually as brothers and sisters, north and south, from numerous communities and churches, to participate in a virtual posada.

The posadas are a Christmas tradition, usually celebrated 9 days before Christmas, starting on December 16 and finishing on December 24 on Christmas Eve. Each of the days represents a value: humility, strength, detachment, charity, trust, justice, purity, happiness and generosity. Children and adults take to the streets to make the “pilgrimage” that consists of visiting 9 houses (one per day) until they find the house where they are lodged, symbolically reenacting the pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where they look for a place to stay and await the birth of the baby Jesus.

The Sister Parish communities form Guatemala and El Salvador organized the event, with Christmas carols, prayers and spiritual reflections for the ninth day of the posadas. The communities shared their traditions with brothers and sisters from the north. At the end of the call, a number of people and communities shared a special holiday treat or meal for the Christmas season. People chatted and laughed together as they continued to share.

The Covid-19 pandemic has attacked hard around the world. Unfortunately we cannot meet and travel as before, but God opens channels for our communication. Despite the distance, we can share the love we have for each other. We hope the new year brings better opportunities and that it allows us to finally come together and give each other a big hug.

El sábado 13 de noviembre Iglesias Hermanas tuvo la bendición de reunir a hermanos y hermanas de norte y sur, de las diversas comunidades e iglesias, para celebrar una Posada virtual.

Las Posadas son una tradición navideña que generalmente se celebran 9 días antes de la Navidad, comenzando el 16 de diciembre hasta terminar el 24 del mismo mes, en la víspera de Navidad. Cada uno de los nueve días representa un valor como humildad, fortaleza, desapego, caridad, confianza, justicia, pureza, alegría y generosidad. Niños y adultos salen a las calles a realizar el “peregrinaje“ que consiste en visitar 9 casas (una por día) hasta encontrar la casa donde se les dé posada. Estas fiestas recuerdan a las personas el peregrinaje de María y José desde su salida de Nazaret hasta Belén, donde buscan un lugar para alojarse y esperar el nacimiento del niño Jesús.

La mayor parte de los hermanamientos en Guatemala y El Salvador se organizaron para el evento, con villancicos, rezos y reflexiones en la Palabra para el noveno día de las posadas. Las comunidades compartieron con los hermanos del norte sus tradiciones. Al terminar, hermanos y hermanas compartían un pequeño refrigerio entre los que tuvieron la oportunidad de reunirse en sus comunidades, pudiendo compartir las comidas tradicionales de la temporada de Navidad, charlar y reír en un rato ameno.

La pandemia Covid-19 ha atacado muy fuerte en todo el mundo y lastimosamente no nos podemos reunir y viajar como antes, pero Dios abre canales para que la comunicación se mantenga y podamos compartir a la distancia el amor que nos tenemos unos a otros. Esperamos que el nuevo año traiga mejores oportunidades y que nos permita reunirnos y darnos un fuerte abrazo.
