On a lovely weekend in October, the Sister Parish Board met in Decorah, Iowa. We were hosted by both the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ in Decorah, as they embark on a shared journey partnering with the community of Potrerillos in El Salvador. We were able to attend services at both churches, and Bruce Sherman delivered a message about the formation, history, and future of the Sister Parish movement.

We meet regularly to take care of our business; financial, personnel and planning for the future. But the highlight of our meetings is often our Solidarity Walk. At the midday break on Saturday, our group, accompanied by Reverend Mee Kang from the First United Methodist Church participated in a Solidarity Walk. Solidarity reflects a unity of purpose and mutual responsibility. We reflect on these as we walk together, talk together, and reflect on our individual and collective roles with Sister Parish.

These walks often take us toward or around water. Water connects us to any other place on the planet. When we see and touch water, we are joining together with our Sister Parish friends, and all of those struggling for justice in the world.

Once again, we leave a successful board meeting refreshed and excited about Sister Parish. We are seeing delegations in planning both South to North, and North to South. We have terrific new people on board in Central America, Jorge and Ruth. We can’t wait to see delegations traveling again, and we look forward to seeing our friends in Central America in person once again.

En un hermoso fin de semana de octubre, la Junta Directiva de Iglesias Hermanasse reunió en Decorah, Iowa. Fuimos recibidos por la Iglesia Metodista Unida y la Iglesia Unida de Cristo en Decorah, ya que se embarcaron en un viaje compartido en asociación con la comunidad de Potrerillos en El Salvador. Pudimos asistir a los servicios en ambas iglesias y Bruce Sherman compartió un mensaje sobre la formación, la historia y el futuro del movimiento de Iglesias Hermanas.

Nos reunimos regularmente para ocuparnos de nuestro negocio; financieros, de personal y de planificación para el futuro. Pero lo más destacado de nuestras reuniones es a menudo nuestra Caminata de Solidaridad. En el descanso del mediodía del sábado, nuestro grupo, acompañado por el reverendo Mee Kang de la Primera Iglesia Metodista Unida, participaron en una Caminata de Solidaridad. La solidaridad refleja una unidad de propósito y una responsabilidad mutua. Reflexionamos sobre esto mientras caminamos juntos, hablamos juntos y reflexionamos sobre nuestros roles individuales y colectivos con Iglesias Hermanas.

Estos paseos a menudo nos llevan hacia o alrededor del agua. El agua nos conecta con cualquier otro lugar del planeta. Cuando vemos y tocamos el agua, nos unimos a nuestros amigos de Iglesias Hermanas y a todos aquellos que luchan por la justicia en el mundo.

Una vez más, salimos de una exitosa reunión de la junta renovada y entusiasmada con Iglesias Hermanas. Estamos viendo delegaciones en la planificación tanto de Sur a Norte como de Norte a Sur. Tenemos gente nueva fabulosa a bordo en América Central, Jorge y Ruth. Estamos ansiosos por ver a las delegaciones viajar nuevamente, y esperamos ver a nuestros amigos en América Central en persona una vez más.
