On February 20-21, representatives from Sister Parish communities in Guatemala gathered at UPAVIM for the bi-annual representatives meeting. UPAVIM was a great host and we were all impressed by the organization and warmth with which we were received.
The photos of our weekend give a sense of the connections we made.
Throughout the weekend, Guatemalan Sister Parish representatives enjoyed learning about the history of UPAVIM’s work and current programs. A number of SP communities in Guatemala have craft projects, scholarship projects, or women’s projects, and could learn from UPAVIM’s organization, creativity and tenacity.
UPAVIM also set up a presentation about nutrition that was given by two volunteers. The volunteers did a great job covering a lot of material and adjusting recommendations to the reality for most families at UPAVIM.
During the weekend’s meetings, Sister Parish representatives discussed plans for hosting the Southern Encounter in November of 2016. At this event, representatives from Sister Parish communities in El Salvador and Guatemala gather to learn from each other, worship, and envision our future as a Sister Parish community. This year, a delegation from the U.S. will also join the activities. The delegation is open to the public, to Sister Parish friends both old and new. Please contact us if you are interested in joining the delegation or would like more information.
