$16k in 2016 – Year of Encounter Fundraising Campaign

When God comes, He always calls us out of our house.  We are visited
so that we can visit others; we are encountered so as to encounter others;
we receive love in order to give love.

As member churches know, Sister Parish is built on encounters.  We encounter Christ in each other, especially in the people of El Salvador and Guatemala, people whose history is tied to the United States but whose stories are hard to find in US culture.

In order to strengthen Sister Parish’s ability to nurture these encounters, we are launching a fundraising campaign, called simply $16k in 2016, with the goal of raising $16,000 above and beyond what we normally raise. This special fund would be to provide delegation scholarships, to recruit new churches to join the Sister Parish family, to support our staff, and to strengthen our reserves.

Before launching the campaign, we are collecting funds to use as challenge grants that can increase the impact of smaller matching donations.

Will you consider helping us in this campaign?  There are several ways you can participate:

  • Make a donation.  Whether a challenge grant or a smaller donation, your contributions make our work possible.  You can send a check or donate onlinePlease label your donation $16k in 2016 and indicate whether it is a challenge grant or a regular donation.
  • Join our fundraising team.  We are looking for volunteers to help raise matching funds during an eight-day “flash” fundraising campaign from June 19-26.  We will help you set up your own fundraising page, which is linked to a team page that tracks our collective progress.
  • Travel with our Open Delegation in November. We will visit communities in both Guatemala and El Salvador to encounter a cross-section of the Sister Parish family and hear their stories.  We will strengthen our bonds and get a sense of the larger organization within which our respective linkages work.

Sister Parish co-founders Richard Fenske and Vicki Schmidt saw that a movement toward justice, reconciliation, and healing would occur best through personal connections between communities of faith. Sister Parish has been building a larger community of encounter one home stay at a time since 1988. We encounter Christ in each other, building relationships before all else.

We hope you will join us!  Please participate in making $16k in 2016 a success in whichever way you feel called.  To offer a challenge grant, become a fundraiser, or learn more about the Open Delegation, contact David Ericson at david@sisterparish.org or 203-313-2880.
